| The Audiology Doctorate Program at LSUHSC
The Louisiana State University Health Sciences
Center in New Orleans is home to the first approved Au.D. program in Louisiana.
Highlights of this extraordinary program are
listed below.
1. The Au.D. Program is a four year program that includes the clinical
fellowship.
2. A
wide variety of clinical settings and placements are available within close
proximity to the campus. As a graduate student you will receive hands-on
training in all areas of audiological testing with patients of all types and
ages.
3. The program is located in one of the most exciting cities in
the U.S.
4. The program is affiliated with
Kresge Hearing Research Laboratory
which is housed (within walking distance) in the same Health Sciences Center
complex. Kresge faculty will teach Au.D. coursework in their major areas of
expertise as well as offer opportunities for students to observe and
participate in the most current audiological research.
5. The audiology doctorate program is part of the Department of
Communication Disorders. The department is housed within the School of Allied
Health Professions and includes state of the art classrooms and research
laboratories. Students may enroll in related allied health courses if
interested.
6. The faculty is comprised of an outstanding group of audiology
clinicians and clinician-investigators.
7. The average pass rate for the PRAXIS examination by
audiology graduates was 100% for the past three years. The employment rate for
our graduates is 100%. The first cohort of Doctor of Audiology students will
complete their degree on time in the spring 2008.
8. Louisiana State University
Health Sciences Center is located in a major metropolitan area and in the
heart of the medical district. As such, we are able to offer a variety of
off-site clinical experiences within walking distance to campus including
the following: LSUHSC Department of Otolaryngology, Tulane University
Medical Center Department of Otolaryngology, the V.A. Medical Center, and
Charity Hospital of New Orleans. Additional sites close by include Joachim
Speech and Hearing Clinic of Memorial Medical Center and Ochsner Hospital
and Clinics. Both of these sites participate in cochlear implant teams,
allowing our students experience in the implant process from the initial
consultation to mappings. Children’s Hospital and Ochsner both host
oral-facial anomalies teams, allowing our students' exposure to this unique
population and interdisciplinary process. Within the metropolitan area we
also have affiliations with numerous physician’s offices and private
practice audiologists.
Being part of a major medical center situated in a large
metropolitan area offers students unique opportunities and exposure to a
wide variety of patients and procedures that they may not have direct access
to in other settings. Students have the opportunity for the following
experiences:
-
Patients of all ages: birth to geriatric
