Department of Physical Therapy Faculty and Staff ![]() Clinical Instructor
T. Kirk Nelson graduated from the
Department of Physical Therapy of the Louisiana State University
Health Sciences Center in 2000 with a Master of Physical
Therapy.
He started out as a staff physical
therapist in the Medical Center of Louisiana New Orleans gaining
experience in multiple settings including inpatient acute,
rehab, wound care, and outpatient orthopedics.
Mr. Nelson joined the faculty of the
Department of Physical Therapy in 2002 serving as the Academic
Coordinator of Clinical Education (2002 – 2007).
Mr. Nelson also taught courses in
Clinical Neurology and assisted in many other courses.
He continued to keep a clinical
practice at University Hospital until August 2005.
Kirk Nelson serves as the Chair of
the departmental Curriculum Committee and greatly assisted in
the development of the new DPT Curriculum presently administered
in the department.
Mr. Nelson is enrolled in the Ph.D. program
at the University Of New Orleans School Of Education in the
Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
Mr. Nelson coordinates the
Professional Practice in Physical Therapy course series teaching
topics such as professionalism, ethical and legal aspects,
cultural competence, patient and health education, as well as
multiple other topics.
He also serves as co-chair of the
executive council of the Academy for the Advancement of the
Scholarship of Education within the Office of Medical Education
Research and Development of LSUHSC New Orleans, which offers
faculty development opportunities to all disciplines within the
Health Science Center.
