Dr. Thompson received his Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1994 and his Master of Physical Therapy in 1998, both from Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington.
Following graduation he worked primarily in rural areas of Louisiana and Mississippi where he gained experience in acute rehabilitation, long term acute rehabilitation, skilled nursing facilities, home health, and outpatient orthopedics. By 2002, his interests led him to become Board Certified in Orthopedic Physical Therapy through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists. He furthered his physical therapy practice skills with a manual therapy certification in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy through the McKenzie Institute, USA in 2004. In 2006, he received a Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During this time, Dr. Thompson practiced as a Senior Physical Therapist and managed the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Natchez Regional Medical Center. In addition, he developed and taught continuing education courses as well as provided consultation and mentoring to colleagues in orthopedics.
Dr. Thompson joined the faculty at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in August 2010. He is interested in the development of evidence based practice, including clinical prediction rules, clinical reasoning, and learning strategies that promote positive changes in clinical behaviors and patient outcomes. Dr. Thompson’s teaching responsibilities are in Movement Sciences I and Diagnosis and Management of Musculoskeletal Dysfunction I and II.
