BSRS Application
The Department of
Rehabilitation Counseling will begin accepting applications after December 15
so that those students who have taken courses in the Fall semester will have
a complete official transcript.
Timeline for application
Applications received by April 15 will be given
priority. Applications received after April 15 will be considered on a
space available basis.
A hard copy application may also be secured by contacting the department

BSRS Pre-Requisite Requirements
The following courses must be successfully
completed prior to entering the BSRS program. Courses must be completed from
an accredited university.
Students may still be in progress with courses
and/or have courses scheduled for the summer session when applying in
February. These students will be given equal consideration in the application
process. If accepted to the program, students will be conditionally admitted
with the requirement that students successfully complete the pre-requisite
courses prior to entering LSUHSC in the Fall semester.

* If you
encounter a problem enrolling in a pre-requisite course due to restrictions or
policies of your home campus, contact the Department for assistance in
selecting an alternative course. An applicant may also submit a written
request to the RC department with a course description from the university’s
catalog to determine acceptance of an alternative course.
If you have any
questions about your past coursework meeting requirements, what courses you
should take in the future, or you would like a faculty member to review your
transcripts for advising purposes, contact the departmental admissions
coordinator to set up a personal meeting.
Note: Hours in
military science, non-academic physical education activity courses (e.g.,
sports skills, tennis, aerobic conditioning), or remedial education courses
are not acceptable for satisfaction of any of the scholastic pre-requisites.

BSRS Admission
Requirements
1.
Minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 system for all college courses
attempted (including those repeated) prior to date of enrollment.
2. Submit scores on the ACT or
the SAT.
3.
Completion of 85
pre-requisite credit hours as listed below
Admissions are conducted once a year. Student
applications may be submitted anytime after December 15. All completed
applications received by April 15th will be given equal
consideration. Applications received after
April 15th will be considered on a space available basis. All students begin the
curriculum in the Fall Semester. Part-time study is available to a limited
number of students.

Informational Sessions
The Department hosts informational sessions for
prospective students and college advisors on the first Friday of each month
from September through February. Information
is provided on the field and scope of practice, curriculum, schedule,
employment opportunities, application/admission requirements, etc.
These sessions are held in the Allied
Health and Nursing Building, 1900 Gravier Street, Room 8A5 and start at 1:30
p.m. Contact the admissions coordinator by phone or via email if you are
interested in attending an informational session.

Upon acceptance to the LSUHSC BSRS or MHSRC
programs, students will receive a packet of information from the School of
Allied Health’s Student Affairs Office. This packet will include information
on Financial Aid and Residence Hall options.

Scholarships
David S. Lindberg Scholarship
The late Dr. David S. Lindberg served as Assistant/Associate Dean
for Academic Affairs from 1974 to 1986. In his honor Mrs. Lindberg, family and
friends have established a scholarship fund to assist outstanding full-time
senior-level undergraduate students in the School of Allied Health
Professions. The scholarship is awarded annually based on the highest
grade-point average and economic need, and will rotate through the three
academic undergraduate programs on a yearly basis.
Departmental Awards
Scholastic Award
This award is given to the student with the highest
grade point average in the BSRS program. The award is given out at the annual
School of Allied Health Professions Honors night. The recipient receives an
engraved plaque and a monetary award.
Faculty Award
This award is given to the student in the BSRS
program who strives for excellence in professionalism and scholastic
achievements. The award is given out at the annual School of Allied Health
Professions Honors night. The recipient receives an engraved plaque and a
monetary award.
