John graduated with a master's degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Alabama-Birmingham in 1994. He completed a residency with the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT) through the Gulf Coast OMPT Residency program in 1998, and he became a full Fellow of the AAOMPT in 2004.

John is currently studying for his Doctor of Health Science with an emphasis in orthopedics and clinical research at the University of Indianapolis. His clinical and research interests are in the area of persistent mechanical pain problems, which comprise the vast majority of outpatient physical therapy clinic visits. The typical diagnoses include sub-acute and chronic low back, neck and extremity pain related to injury, overuse or underlying disease, such as arthritis.

John has extensive experience as both a clinic owner/director and staff PT in the outpatient setting. From 2000 to 2004 he taught clinical and didactic course work in orthopedic manual physical therapy with an accredited OMPT fellowship program. His experience also includes numerous community and professional presentations in the areas of wellness, injury prevention, pain and physical therapy clinical research.

In his clinical practice, John utilizes an eclectic, gentle, hands-on approach to treatment, which is based on an “interactive” model of treatment and that is consistent with current neurobiogical theories of pain, basic science and current outcomes research in physical and manual therapy. This model acknowledges and respects each individual patient’s autonomy and ability to achieve resolution for his or her pain problem- the therapist is merely a catalyst for this process to occur. John accounts for all dimensions of the pain experience by providing a caring environment along with detailed pain education, gentle manual therapy and both choreographed and instinctive movement education, as the clinical situation dictates.

John is married to Kristen and they have two children, Conner and Grace.
