Department of Occupational Therapy

The Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) degree is designed as an entry level clinical master’s degree program for students who possess a baccalaureate degree and prerequisite course work. It is a 91-credit hour program beginning in the spring semester. Our curriculum spans 7 semesters for full-time students.

Projected Changes to the Educational Program in 2026

All Master of Occupational Therapy programs have been mandated by the accrediting body, ACOTE, to reduce the length of the curriculum. The faculty are excited about this change and believe students will continue to have excellent preparation as clinicians but in a more efficient timeframe. The cohort that begins in January of 2026 will graduate 23 months later, in December of 2027. The planned curriculum will consist of 81 credit hours over 6 semesters; included in these semester hours are 24 weeks of Level II Fieldwork. Details of the planned curriculum will be added to our website soon.

The LSUHSC Department of Occupational Therapy MOT degree program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 7501 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite 510E Bethesda, MD 20814. ACOTE's telephone number is 601-652-6611. For additional information related to the program's accreditation status, click here.
